GRRL x Made of Oak Announce and Release Debut EP ‘Inertia’

September 2, 2022

Today, in another “unanticipated yet delightful collision of worlds” (PAPER), GRRL x Made of Oak have announced and released their debut EP, Inertia. Out everywhere digitally and available as a physical pre-order now, the brain-bending and body-moving collaboration is the result of a shared obsession between two sonically dissimilar, but like-minded members of Durham, NC’s eclectic dance community: elusive DJ, producer and NTS affiliate James Mapley-Brittle (GRRL), and Sylvan Esso’s Nick Sanborn (Made of Oak). “It’s not clear what they’re putting in the water in North Carolina, but whatever it is, it’s going to make you sweat uncontrollably, screw up your face, and bounce like you’re spring-loaded,” said Bandcamp Daily, when naming GRRL x Made of Oak some of the best electronic music of the month. “Kind of DJ Stingray electro, blown up to Pacific-Rim-monster size…distilling the purest essence of rave.

In addition to its title track, “an energetic cut which delivers trance-tinged techno” (Mixmag), Inertia features “Tempest,” “Interference” and the previously unheard “Aerial,” with the entire EP translated into its own visual language through the mesmerizing artwork of Eric Timothy Carlson and Aaron Anderson (Bon Iver, Boys Noize, Leon Vynehall). From the hypnotic videos for each song to the meticulous physical packaging, listeners can further lose themselves in the endlessly exhilarating layers of music.
